This month, I wanted to share stories of young people who identify as bi-racial and gay and to hear about their experiences growing up in a world that may not always be so understanding.

The first episode in this series is with Patrick, a 4th year business major at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. He grew up in Auburn, Maine and was a big part of the BLM movement and has continued his advocacy work for the LGBTQ+ community.

Listen in as we talk about:

  • The complexity of having a racist grandfather and a homophobic father
  • How Patrick knew he was gay
  • His deep fear of coming out to his parents
  • How Patrick’s aggression and isolation manifested into anger
  • The challenges Patrick continues to face as a bi-racial young man
  • Why neither the white nor black community fully accepts him
